It was 8:45 in the morning and the apparatus bay of Station 12 resembled more of a community hall than a fire station. Apparatus had been moved outside, tables and chairs brought in and the sweet smell of sausage and fresh pancakes filled the air as yet another firehouse tradition returned to North Whatcom and District 4.
Griddles gleaming, spatulas at the ready the first of roughly 750 globs of dough transformed themselves into golden deliciousness at the expert hands of NWFR’s / WCFD 4’s finest chefs. Nearly 150 folks from our community and NWFR / WCFD 4 members steadily came through the nine to noon event consuming a breakfast consisting of pancakes, Hempler’s sausage, coffee and orange juice.
After getting their fill children of all ages enjoyed the Fire Safety house and bicycle rodeo.
Even though this was a free event, several people felt the need to make a donation to the district.
Overall this was a great opportunity to invite people into our home and show them that we too are part of the community.
A sincere thank you to everyone who took time out of their own schedules to come in, enjoy a little breakfast and build positive relationships within the community .
